2014 GENERAL ELECTION RESULTS PROVIDE FEW SURPRISES

Here you will find results from the 2014 General Elections including details of Illinois House, Senate & Congressional seats. Please note that new members are so indicated.
Bruce Rauner stated in his victory speech that he has already called Speaker Madigan and Senate President Cullerton and would like to work with them. It will be very interesting to watch this dynamic unfold. At the time of this writing, not all of the early and provisional votes have been counted. Governor Quinn has not conceded the election but the numbers don't seem to support his re-election.
US Senator Dick Durbin won easily and his opponent, Jim Oberweis, returns to his state Senate seat. Also, Mike Frerichs won the office of Treasurer in a close race. Judy Barr-Topinka, Lisa Madigan and Jesse White all return for four-year terms.
House Speaker Madigan and Senate President Cullerton both maintain veto-proof majorities. Speaker Madigan retained 71 seats, keeping all of his House incumbents safe. There are several new members of the House due to a number of retirements among republican legislators.
President Cullerton, only lost one seat, State Senator Mike Jacobs (D-Moline), dropping his total from 40 seats to 39 seats. Senator Jacobs of the Quad-Cities was a controversial member of the General Assembly – but he was with the PBPA on a majority of issues and his support will be missed.
On a Federal level –
The Illinois delegation to the US House of Representatives gained two Republican seats in Illinois with the defeat of Congressman Brad Schneider (Bob Dold- winner) and Congressman Bill Enyart (Mike Bost-winner)
The US House is now strongly controlled by a republican majority of 242 to 174.
The US Senate has also come under republican control by a majority of 52 to 45.
Our focus in Springfield has shifted to the upcoming Veto Session scheduled for November 19-21 and December 2-4 and a potential "lame duck" session that has not been scheduled yet (but is expected).
